Step by step

Edit PDF Metadata: step by step

Change PDF title, author, subject, keywords and other properties online. Free metadata editor, no watermark.

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drop in a document and pick the job: Change metadata edits the fields — it's the one already selected — while Remove all metadata strips the file back to bare. Files are deleted after 2 hours.

The two metadata choices: Remove all metadata — “Completely delete metadata from doc” — and Change metadata — “Update only specific fields” — above the Continue button
  2. 2

    Edit the fields

Continue opens eight boxes, prefilled from the file's own properties: Title, Author, CreationDate, Creator, Keywords, ModDate, Producer and Subject. Type over anything — or empty a box to clear that property on the run. Dates take the friendly 13/04/2021, 23:53:41 shape.

The top of the metadata editor: Title holding “Quarterly Report”, Author “Dana Tester” and CreationDate “01/04/2026, 12:00:00” with its example hint The middle of the editor: Creator “Northside Tools”, Keywords “report, quarterly, board” and the ModDate box with its example hint
  3. 3

Add your own fields, then update

Add new field opens a small dialog — name it, give it a value, and the row joins the list, riding into the PDF as its own property. Press Update PDF Metadata and the edited file comes back ready to download. (Remove all metadata skips the boxes and finishes straight from Continue.)

The New metadata field dialog: a Name box with the Author placeholder, a Value box with “Alex Appleseed”, and the Add field button The bottom of the editor: Producer “fitz”, Subject “Q3 results”, the Add new field link and the Update PDF Metadata button
  • Eight fields, prefilled

Title, Author, Creator, Keywords, Subject, Producer and both dates open with the file's own values.

  • Or wipe them all

Remove all metadata leaves a document with no properties at all — nothing to trace.

  • Custom fields

Add your own properties — Department, Invoice, anything — from the New metadata field dialog.

  • Friendly dates

Type dates as 13/04/2021, 23:53:41 — and empty any box to clear that property.

  • Clean before sharing

Stripping metadata removes author names and software traces before a file leaves your desk.

  • Private by default

No account, no watermark — and every file is automatically deleted after 2 hours.

What the other tools do

Create Bookmarks

Builds the navigation outline: one bookmark title per line, each pointing at a page, with an optional pattern that detects headings and creates the tree for you.

Extract Images

Pulls the images out of a PDF as separate files, or renders whole pages as images at a resolution you choose. JPG and PNG are available, and the batch arrives as a ZIP.

Grayscale

Converts colour pages to grayscale or pure black for printing, with separate choices for text and images and an option to compress the images on the way through.

Header & Footer

Adds one line of text to a header or footer position on every page, with tokens such as [PAGE_ARABIC], [PAGE_ROMAN] and [TOTAL_PAGES] so the same line numbers itself per page.
