PDFs resist editing because they are print instructions, not word processors. Once you know which kind of change you are making, the right method is usually obvious — and the page around the change can stay untouched.
Step by step
-
1
Upload your PDF
Drag your PDF onto the box or click Choose file. It is sent over an encrypted connection and only used for this task.
-
2
Run it and download
Press Edit PDF and the page shows progress while it works. When it finishes you get a download link — nothing is emailed and nothing is stored longer than it needs to be.
Three honest ways to change a PDF
- Edit the text layer. Perfect for a typo, a changed date or a single line in a selectable PDF. The replacement keeps the original font, size and colour where the file allows it.
- Cover and retype. Whiteout the old area and put fresh text on top. This always works, including for unusual fonts, but you must match the surrounding type.
- Convert to Word. Right for paragraphs of new copy, reflowing or structural changes. See PDF to Word and bring the result back as a PDF if the final file must look fixed.
Keep the surrounding page intact
The biggest editing mistake is letting the tool reflow every line on the page because one sentence changed. Prefer the smallest edit that solves the problem. If a change is longer than the space available, adjust the font size by a fraction, tighten the line spacing, or move the whole block rather than letting the text spill into a footer.
Use the page at 100% while you work. A change that looks fine at 50% can overlap a border or a logo when printed.
What not to edit in place
Do not try to turn a scan into text by clicking it — those pixels are the page. Run OCR first, then edit the searchable version. Likewise, avoid editing a page that is about to be signed or certified; make a clean copy, apply the edit, and re-issue the document rather than layering changes over an execution copy.
Review before you send
Check the edited paragraph at 100%, then check the page in the context of the page before and after it. Confirm the page count did not change, and open the exported file in a second viewer if the document matters. The editor’s preview is fast; the final download is what the recipient sees.
Good habits for Edit PDF
- Click any existing text to edit it in place — the original font, size and colour are kept.
- Signatures can be typed, drawn with a mouse or finger, or uploaded as an image.
- Press Undo (or Ctrl+Z) if a change lands in the wrong spot.
Common questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. Every tool on this site is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily task limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tools run in your browser and are processed by this server.
What happens to my files?
They are stored under an unguessable id and swept automatically after a couple of hours. Nothing is shared or indexed.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The page pickers and editors are built for touch, so dragging, rotating and selecting pages all work without a mouse.
What does Edit PDF do exactly?
Fill & sign PDF. Add text, links, images and shapes. Annotate.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
Not as text directly. Run OCR to add a text layer, then edit the searchable copy. The original scan remains pixels underneath.
Will editing change the rest of the page?
The smallest in-place edit should leave the surrounding page untouched. Always review at 100% and check neighbouring pages before exporting.
Is the original file changed?
No. The editor works on a copy; your upload stays untouched and is deleted automatically after the retention window.
