Signing a PDF is two jobs that look like one: filling the document and placing a signature. Doing the fill first keeps the signature on the final version, so the fields and the name do not end up on different copies.
Step by step
-
1
Upload your PDF
Drag your PDF onto the box or click Choose file. It is sent over an encrypted connection and only used for this task.
-
2
Run it and download
Press Fill & Sign and the page shows progress while it works. When it finishes you get a download link — nothing is emailed and nothing is stored longer than it needs to be.
Fields first, free text second
If the PDF has real form fields, fill them first — they are built to reflow and print cleanly. If it is a flat page, use the text tool to type directly on the page, matching the surrounding size. Save the filled draft before adding a signature so a mistake in the signature does not force you to retype the form.
Which kind of signature to use
- Typed — fastest and clearest for internal approvals; it is a representation of your name, not a cryptographic signature.
- Drawn — closest to a wet-ink signature. Draw with a finger, stylus or mouse, and keep the stroke size consistent with the page.
- Uploaded image — useful when you have a transparent PNG of your signature. Check the background is clean before placing it.
For a contract that needs identity checks, signing order and an audit trail, use E-Signer rather than a placed image.
Multiple signers and initials
Give each signer their own copy if they are signing separately, and make sure the date fields and initials pages are filled before the signature. When several people sign the same document, collect the signatures in the order the contract requires; a PDF does not enforce order by itself.
Check the signed copy
Open the downloaded PDF and confirm the signature sits on the right line, the date is correct and no field is still highlighted. Print a page if the document will be printed — a signature that looks fine on screen can sit outside the printable area. If the recipient needs to verify the signature, send the file produced by E-Signer with its certificate rather than a flattened image.
Good habits for Fill & Sign
- Click any existing text to edit it in place — the original font, size and colour are kept.
- Signatures can be typed, drawn with a mouse or finger, or uploaded as an image.
- Press Undo (or Ctrl+Z) if a change lands in the wrong spot.
Common questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. Every tool on this site is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily task limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tools run in your browser and are processed by this server.
What happens to my files?
They are stored under an unguessable id and swept automatically after a couple of hours. Nothing is shared or indexed.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The page pickers and editors are built for touch, so dragging, rotating and selecting pages all work without a mouse.
What does Fill & Sign do exactly?
Add your signature to a PDF. Fill out PDF forms.
Is an electronic signature legally valid?
Many documents can be signed electronically, but validity depends on the document, the jurisdiction and the parties. For regulated or high-value agreements, check the requirements and use an identity-verified workflow such as E-Signer.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Draw the signature with a finger or type it, then review the page at 100% before downloading.
Can I remove a signature after saving?
Remove it in the editor before downloading. Once a signed copy has been sent, treat it as executed and issue a new version rather than overwriting the recipient’s copy.
