Resize PDF Pages to A4, Letter or Custom
Paper sizes differ by a few millimetres and printers notice. Resizing brings every page onto the sheet you actually have.
What this tool does
Changes the paper: scale every page to a new size (A4, Letter, Legal and the rest), add margins around existing content, or shrink the file.
How it works
Pick what you want done, choose the target size or the margins in points, inches, centimetres or millimetres, and apply it to a page range if needed. The preview shows the result before you save, which matters when content sits close to the edge of the original.
- Choose the PDF, or drag it onto the page.
- Set what to do and page size — the settings below explain what each one changes.
- Run the tool and download the result.
Settings that decide the result
- What to do — Add margins and padding, Change page size, Reduce the file size
- Page size — Custom size, A1 (23.39 x 33.11 in), A2 (16.54 x 23.39 in), A3 (11.69 x 16.54 in), A4 (8.27 x 11.69 in), A5 (5.83 x 8.27 in), A6 (4.14 x 5.83 in), Letter (8.5 x 11 in), Legal (8.5 x 14 in), Ledger (11 x 17 in), Tabloid (11 x 17 in), Executive (7.25 x 10.55 in)
- Unit — Points, Inch, cm, mm
- Custom page width (with Custom size)
The remaining 7 controls stay on the tool page, where each one sits next to the live preview.
When to reach for it
- A US document must print on A4. Scale to the target size and keep the content whole.
- You need a margin for binding. Add space around the existing page instead of shrinking it.
Questions we get
Resize versus margins — what's the difference?
One mode changes the paper size (A4 to Letter, or custom) and scales the content to fit; the other keeps the paper and builds margins by adding white space around the existing page.
Where it fits
The tools people usually open next to Resize:
- Organize PDF — Arrange, rotate, duplicate, delete or insert PDF pages.
- Flip — Mirror PDF pages horizontally or vertically.
- Split in half — Split two page layout scans, A3 to double A4 or A4 to double A5.
Every tool works on a copy, so the original file is never modified. Uploads are stored under an unguessable id and deleted automatically two hours after you last open them; nothing is listed, shared or indexed. More on the security page.
