A page can look upright in one viewer and print sideways in another when only the view is rotated. The useful change is written into the PDF page itself — that is what this tool does, for one page or for the whole document.
This guide covers choosing the angle, rotating only the pages that need it, and the check that catches a mixed scan before it reaches a printer.
Step by step
-
1
Upload your PDF
Drag your PDF onto the box or click Choose file. It is sent over an encrypted connection and only used for this task.
-
2
Set the options
Adjust angle, pages and discard bookmarks. Every field has a sensible default, so you can usually run the tool straight away.
-
3
Run it and download
Press Rotate and the page shows progress while it works. When it finishes you get a download link — nothing is emailed and nothing is stored longer than it needs to be.
View rotation vs page rotation
Most PDF viewers let you turn the view without changing the file. That is useful for reading a sideways page, but it does not travel: the next person opens the PDF and sees the original orientation. Rotate PDF writes the rotation into each selected page, so the saved file opens upright everywhere.
The page content is not redrawn. The tool changes the page’s rotation value, which keeps text selectable and images at their original resolution.
Pick the angle and the pages
90° clockwise fixes a page that is lying on its left side; 270° is the counter-clockwise turn for a page on its right side; 180° turns an upside-down page. Choose the smallest turn that makes the text read normally rather than turning the same page three times.
The Pages field accepts a range such as 1,3,5-7. Use
it when only the inserted or scanned pages are wrong. If every page
needs the same turn, leave it blank to apply the rotation to the
whole document.
Fixing mixed-orientation scans
A stack scanned from mixed paper sizes often arrives with a few landscape pages among portrait ones. Rotate the outliers first, then open Organize PDF to check the order and page sizes together. If the finished set needs to print on one sheet size, use Resize PDF or N-up after the rotation, not before — changing the page box first can make the rotation harder to judge.
Check the saved copy
Open the downloaded PDF, not the editor preview, and look at the first and last rotated page at 100%. Confirm the page count did not change and that any bookmarks still point where you expect. If the document will be printed, print one page as a test; a page that looks upright on screen can still sit outside the printable area after a crop or resize. Keep the original until the output is checked.
Good habits for Rotate
- Page thumbnails are tap-friendly, so you can reorder and delete on a phone.
- Every tool works on a copy — your original file is never modified.
- Use Split by text when a document has no bookmarks to split on.
Common questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. Every tool on this site is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily task limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tools run in your browser and are processed by this server.
What happens to my files?
They are stored under an unguessable id and swept automatically after a couple of hours. Nothing is shared or indexed.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The page pickers and editors are built for touch, so dragging, rotating and selecting pages all work without a mouse.
What does Rotate do exactly?
Rotate and save PDF pages permanently.
Does rotating a PDF reduce quality?
No. Rotation changes the page orientation; it does not re-render text or resample images.
Can I rotate only one page?
Yes. Enter that page number in the Pages field, or use a range for several pages. Leave it blank to rotate every page.
Why does the page still look sideways in another app?
The saved file may not have been downloaded, or the viewer may be showing a cached version. Open the downloaded copy in a second viewer before changing the source again.
What happens to bookmarks?
The rotation does not change page order, so bookmarks keep their targets. The discard-bookmarks option is there only if you want to remove the outline as part of the export.
