Step-by-step guide

How to split a PDF every N pages

Some documents split on a rhythm rather than a chapter list: one invoice every two pages, one ticket per sheet, a fixed number of pages per batch. Split every N pages turns that rhythm into a step count instead of a long range list.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drag your PDF onto the box or click Choose file. It is sent over an encrypted connection and only used for this task.

  2. 2

    Set the options

Adjust pages per file, file name pattern and discard bookmarks. Every field has a sensible default, so you can usually run the tool straight away.

  3. 3

    Run it and download

Press Split every N pages and the page shows progress while it works. When it finishes you get a download link — nothing is emailed and nothing is stored longer than it needs to be.

Choose the step from the document, not the page count

If each invoice is two pages, the step is 2. If every form is four pages, the step is 4. The last group is allowed to be shorter; a 25-page file split every 4 pages produces six groups and a final group of one. Check that final group before assuming the split is wrong.

Names and bookmarks

Use the file-name pattern to include the source name and the starting page of each part. Keep bookmarks unless the parts should stand alone without the original outline. A split cannot repair a bookmark that pointed outside its section in the source, so check one part’s contents panel.

Check the parts

Open the first and last part and compare their page counts with the step. Confirm the order and that no page is repeated at a boundary. Keep the source until the parts have been reviewed; if the step was wrong, re-run from the original rather than merging the pieces back together.

Good habits for Split every N pages

  • Page thumbnails are tap-friendly, so you can reorder and delete on a phone.
  • Every tool works on a copy — your original file is never modified.
  • Use Split by text when a document has no bookmarks to split on.

Common questions

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool on this site is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily task limit.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The tools run in your browser and are processed by this server.

What happens to my files?

They are stored under an unguessable id and swept automatically after a couple of hours. Nothing is shared or indexed.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The page pickers and editors are built for touch, so dragging, rotating and selecting pages all work without a mouse.

What does Split every N pages do exactly?

Split a document into chunks of N pages.

What happens to the last group when it is smaller?

It is kept as a shorter final part. A 10-page file split every 4 pages produces 4, 4 and 2 pages.

Can I split by ranges instead?

Yes. Use Split by pages when each cut has a different page number. Every N is for uniform chunks.

Are bookmarks kept?

Bookmarks that point into each part are carried where the file structure allows it. Check the contents panel in one part.

What the other tools do

N-up

Places several pages on one sheet — 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32-up — with a readable order and a sheet size you choose. It is the print-saving layout for handouts, proofs and booklets.

Resize

Changes the paper: scale every page to a new size (A4, Letter, Legal and the rest), add margins around existing content, or shrink the file.

Delete Pages

Removes pages from a copy of the document. The pages you keep are copied whole, and bookmarks pointing at them come along unless you tick the discard box.

Compare

Compares two versions of the same document and names every meaningful difference: changed wording, numbers and dates, inserted or removed blocks, and pages that shifted. The result is a report you can read, not a highlight layer you have to interpret.
